Russian Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov was killed today in a car explosion in Moscow.
The car exploded on Yasenevaya Street in Moscow early this morning, reports RBK, citing two police sources.
According to reports, the general was trapped in the car but was later rescued and hospitalized in critical condition. RIA Novosti subsequently confirmed that Sarvarov had died.
“Due to the sustained injuries, Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, Head of the Operational Training Department of the Russian Armed Forces General Staff, has passed away,” said Svetlana Petrenko, spokeswoman for the Russian Investigative Committee.
“SHOT,” a Russian news channel on Telegram, reported that an explosive device had been placed under a Kia Sorento, which detonated a few seconds after the car started moving.
According to the channel, the 56-year-old general sustained multiple shrapnel wounds, closed fractures, leg injuries, and facial bone fractures.
RBK reminds that since May 2024, Sarvarov had been the Head of the Operational Training Department of the Armed Forces. At that time, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General by presidential decree.
