One worker has been hospitalized with serious head injuries following the partial collapse of a medieval tower that was under restoration in central Rome, near the Colosseum, ANSA reported.
The injured man was part of a team working on the restoration of this medieval fortified tower, located near the Colosseum and the Roman Forum.
Two other workers sustained minor injuries but refused to be taken to the hospital, sources added.
A spokesperson for the National Fire Service, Luca Cari, said that emergency teams are working to rescue a person trapped under the rubble.

Three workers who were on the scaffolding and trapped after the collapse were rescued with the help of a fire truck.
An investigation into the causes of the accident is underway.
Torre dei Conti
The Counts’ Tower (Torre dei Conti), standing 29 meters tall, has not been in use since 2006, but restoration work has been underway as part of a four-year project scheduled for completion next year, Rome authorities stated.
Video footage on social media showed clouds of dust billowing from the tower’s windows, accompanied by the sounds of falling stones. Due to the restoration work, the area around the tower had been closed to pedestrians.
The building was constructed in the early 13th century by Pope Innocent III for his family.
