Are the British sending troops to Ukraine?

Speaking during a lecture in London, Healey outlined joint British-French efforts to build a "coalition of the willing" — multinational forces that could eventually be deployed to Ukraine as part of a post-war stabilization mission.

The proposed forces would help secure Ukraine’s airspace and territorial waters and assist in training its military, should Russia agree to end its full-scale invasion.

“So, while the US President leads efforts to achieve peace here in Europe, we are ready to take the lead on its long-term security,” Healey said.

“As for our Armed Forces, I am already reviewing readiness levels and accelerating the allocation of millions of pounds to prepare for a possible deployment to Ukraine,” he added.

Healey’s statements mark the first public confirmation that Britain is developing concrete plans for a potential military presence in Ukraine as part of a post-war security arrangement.

He also warned of a “new era of threats,” saying the risk of a broader conflict in Europe “has not been this high since the end of World War II.”

Healey noted that the UK and France have spent the past six months working with more than 30 countries to form the so-called Multinational Ukraine Forces. He said the UK has allocated £100 million to ensure its troops are ready to join the mission if a peace agreement is reached.

“That is why President Zelensky calls the UK his closest ally,” Healey said. “That is why Putin ranks Britain as his number one enemy.”

Earlier, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto expressed his country’s willingness to contribute to peacekeeping forces in Ukraine.
