The boarding school collapsed: the bodies are under the rubble, the search is underway PHOTO/VIDEO
One person has died and Indonesian rescuers are searching for 38 missing people after an Islamic boarding school collapsed in East Java province as dozens of students attended afternoon prayers.
In the accident that happened yesterday, 102 people were evacuated, according to the disaster relief authorities, Reuters reported.
The incident happened at the Al-Khoziny Islamic Boarding School in Sidoarjo, when the building collapsed during construction, and construction materials fell on dozens of students and workers.
A spokesman for the disaster mitigation agency, Abdul Muhari, said rescuers were using bulldozers and other heavy equipment to move the rubble in search of survivors.
Approximately 80 people were injured and taken to the hospital.
It was also reported that the foundation of the building was not strong enough to support the weight of the structure on the fourth floor, causing it to collapse.
