Donald Trump acknowledged: "They hate each other so much..." VIDEO
US President Donald Trump expressed doubts about the possibility of direct talks between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian leader Vladimir Putin, due to their deep personal enmity.
As Ukrainian Pravda reported, Trump admitted in a short conversation with journalists today that ending the Russian war against Ukraine turned out to be much more difficult than he expected.
"I thought this would be easy for me, but this turned out to be difficult," he said, citing the relationship between the Ukrainian and Russian leaders as the main reason.
"The hatred between Zelensky and Putin is incomprehensible," Trump said.
The US President also pointed out that such an assessment leads him to reconsider the effectiveness of direct talks between Kyiv and Moscow.
Asked if he believed such negotiations were possible, Trump replied: "I don't know. I think I'll have to do the talking."
When asked when such a conversation could take place, the US president gave a vague answer, saying it could happen "relatively soon".
Asked further if the next step could be a trilateral summit, Trump said the format was not important.
