Macron is getting ready; Mobilization: 80,000 gendarmes and policemen on hold

About 80,000 gendarmes and policemen will be mobilized on Wednesday, September 10, to prevent the outbreak of any riots within the "Block everyone" movement, French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau, who will soon resign, said today.

"We will not tolerate any blockade, any violence," Retailleau told France 2 channel.

He stated that tomorrow morning he will gather all the prefects to discuss the mobilization for September 10, sharply criticizing the movement La France Insoumise (LFI) and its leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon, accusing them of wanting to create an "insurgent atmosphere" in France.

Estimates from the territorial services say that around 100,000 participants will gather on Wednesday, a number that French Prime Minister François Bayrou, who faced a vote of no confidence today, recently described as "quite small" during an appearance on France 2 television.

The movement called "Mobilization 10 September" was born in the summer as a protest against the budget cuts of the government of Prime Minister François Bayrou, which predicted significant savings for the year 2026.

The slogan "Let's block everything" calls on citizens to stop the country on that day and express their dissatisfaction with the current political and economic situation.

Left-wing movements - Unconquered France (La France Insoumise - LFI), Environmentalists and the French Communist Party supported this initiative.

The leader of the LF, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, called for a general strike on September 10, so that the movement would have a strong symbolic and practical effect.

According to polls, about 46 percent of French people support the initiative, while 28 percent are against it, and 26 percent are indifferent.

Macron expects violence; Fear of September 18

French President Emmanuel Macron expects violence on September 10, a source close to the Elysée Palace told the Brussels-based Politico portal.

However, a strike on the 18th of September could paralyze France's transport networks as it will involve unions representing rail workers, air traffic controllers and Air France staff. Civil servants, including teachers, are expected to be on the picket lines.

"The real problem [for Emmanuel Macron's staff] is whether it will continue on the 19th and 20th. They are panicking, they are calling everyone in order to find that out," said one of the sources.
