Evacuation is underway

The Syrian Minister of Emergency Situations and Disaster Management, Raed al-Saleh, stated in a post on the X network that civil protection teams were urgently dispatched to the site of the explosion in the city of Ma'arrat Misrin in the north of Idlib, the Syrian state news agency SANA reported.

The cause of the explosion, he said, is unknown.

He added that teams are carrying out evacuation operations despite the secondary explosions, which complicate the rescue operation.

The final number of casualties has not been confirmed, he added, urging residents to avoid the blast site for their own safety as teams continue to work in dangerous and complex conditions.
