Europe is preparing for an unimaginable catastrophe; There'll be no basic things without which there's no life
The European Commission today called on EU countries to help increase the efficiency of water consumption by at least 10 percent by 2030, while the Union prepares for the increasingly severe consequences of climate change.
Based on the EC's proposal, which is not legally binding, EU members will determine their own goals in saving water consumption, writes Politico.
This recommendation is part of the European Water Strategy published today.
The aim of that platform is to restore the water cycle, which is deeply threatened by pollution, climate change and environmental destruction.
Europe is facing multiple water problems, including nitrate pollution and "permanent" PFAS chemicals, poor infrastructure, as well as increasingly severe droughts and heavy rainfall.
As stated, the EC will cooperate with EU countries in order to "develop a common methodology in promoting more efficient water consumption" that will take into account existing differences between countries, regions and sectors.
