Peskov said that Witkoff arrived in Moscow today with Trump's message to Putin, and that he is leaving with an answer, the Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported.

He called Witkoff's second visit to Russia in two weeks shuttle diplomacy, as part of US mediation efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Ukraine.

"This is precisely shuttle diplomacy. These are mediation services provided by the United States of America," Peskov told "Rosiya 1" journalist Pavlo Zarubin.

The meeting between the Russian leader Vladimir Putin and the special US envoy Steven Witkoff lasted for about three hours, and a convoy of vehicles, one of which is assumed to include an American official, left the Kremlin, reports the reporter of the Russian agency RIA Novosti.

A little later, the Russian agency announced that a plane like the one Witkoff boarded had taken off from Moscow.

The meeting between Putin and Witkoff lasted three hours and took place in a constructive atmosphere, said the assistant to the president Yuriy Ushakov.

They discussed, among other things, the possibility of resuming direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, he pointed out, as reported by RIA Novosti.

"Today's conversation made it possible to bring the positions of the USA and Russia closer together, not only on Ukraine, but also on other international issues," noted Ushakov.

In accordance with the agreement between the presidents of the United States and Russia, the productive dialogue will continue, he added.

Ushakov pointed out that an important point of the conversation was the possibility of direct negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.

The Russian official adds that the meeting between Putin and Witkoff was held symbolically on the 80th anniversary of the meeting on the Elba (the historic meeting of Soviet and American troops on the Elba River in World War II).

"However, Russia must remain vigilant despite the ongoing negotiations and understand the essence of this (Kyiv's) regime," Peskov told Russia 1 journalist Zarubin.

The meeting started around 2:20 p.m. Moscow time, and the convoy of cars left the Kremlin shortly after 5 p.m., according to the Russian news agencies TASS and RIA Novosti.

In a video released by the Kremlin, Witkoff and Putin shook hands and exchanged greetings.

"How are you, Mr. President?" Witkoff asked as he entered the office and extended his hand to the president.

"Good. Quite good. Thank you. How are you?", Putin replied in English with a smile, shaking Witkoff's hand.

Trump's envoy then told Putin he was really glad to see him.

The participants of the meeting then sat down at the oval negotiating table.

This is the second meeting between Putin and Witkoff in the last two weeks and the fourth since the beginning of the year. The last one was held in St. Petersburg on April 11 and lasted more than four hours.
