Chaos and drama in Birmingham: Ivana Španović in trouble – Final postponed!
Serbian athlete Ivana Španović will be aiming for gold in the triple jump at the European Championships (9:10 p.m.).
Latest update – Final postponed!
Instead of starting at 8:40 p.m., the final is now scheduled to begin half an hour later, at 9:10 p.m.
Problems for Ivana before she even reached the final
As coach Goran Obradović explained to Sport Klub, two traffic accidents on the way to Birmingham slowed down the bus carrying Ivana Španović.
The Serbian athlete has been traveling for two hours, so she had to begin her warm-up while still on the bus...
What do we know ahead of the final?
According to her coach Goran Obradović, a jump of around 14.5 meters should be enough to win a medal.
Ivana’s personal best is 14.41m, so it is clear that the target distance is well within reach.
However, she faces fierce competition from Gabriela Petrova, Tuğba Danışmaz, Ilona Mezzoni, Erika Saraceni, Dariya Derkach and others.
Mezzoni set a personal best of 14.52m this year, while Derkach, the European rankings leader, has jumped 14.51m, and Saraceni has reached 14.50m.
Španović chases her first European triple jump medal
After winning two gold and one silver medal in the long jump at the European Championships, Španović will now make her first attempt to reach the podium in the triple jump.
