Norway had not appeared at a World Cup since 1998 before this tournament.

Erling Haaland referred to that long absence on his Instagram after the big win over Brazil, writing:

“Worth the 28-year wait.”

The striker, who has scored in every match he has played at the tournament, now has 62 goals in 54 appearances for the national team.

Haaland’s Instagram post gathered more than 5,000,000 likes in just five hours, including one from Novak Djoković.

Norway defeated Brazil 2–1 in a dramatic World Cup Round of 16 match, with Haaland scoring both goals in the 79th and 90th minutes. Both assists were provided by substitute Andreas Schjelderup.

The match was decided in the closing stages as Haaland delivered two decisive blows that eliminated Brazil national football team from the tournament.

Norway’s run continues, and they will now face England national football team in the quarterfinals.
