Highs will range from 32°C to 36°C, well above the average of 24°C to 28°C for this time of year.

The hottest day will be Saturday, September 5, with temperatures reaching 34°C to 38°C.

That day, a surge of hot air is expected to move from North Africa across the Mediterranean, before a cooler air mass flows in from the northwest via the Alps and the Pannonian Plain on Sunday.

By the end of the day, a weakened cold front is expected to move in from the north, bringing strong northwesterly winds and some relief from the heat. Maximum temperatures on Sunday will be around 30°C.

Hot weather will then continue through most of next week.

The next 10 days are also expected to bring below-average rainfall and dry conditions, further affecting river flows, which are already at very low levels, while significantly increasing the risk of wildfires and fires in open areas.

Temperatures to drop in the second half of September

According to current forecasts, the weather is expected to change at the beginning and middle of the second week of September.

A long-awaited spell of cooler weather is finally expected, with a cold front bringing an end to the summer heat and pushing temperatures down to 23°C to 27°C — around average for mid-September.

The cooler weather will also bring rain, showers and thunderstorms.

From mid-September, the weather will finally become more in line with the calendar, with more pleasant but still warm conditions expected during the second half of the month and temperatures generally around 25°C.

In other words, pleasant summer-like days are expected to continue into the beginning of astronomical autumn.

Nights and mornings will become progressively cooler, signaling that true autumn is just around the corner.

Rainfall is also expected to become somewhat more frequent, although mostly in the form of passing showers.
