Meteorologist reveals when the heatwave will peak – Temperatures could reach as high as 48°C! VIDEO

Meteorologist Ivan Ristić says the peak of the upcoming heatwave will bring astonishing temperatures of up to 48°C in direct sunlight.

"A very intense heatwave is developing. We think it's already extremely hot, but this is not the peak because we're fortunate to have the košava wind blowing. That wind is helping us for now. We'll somehow get through while the košava lasts, but by Tuesday or Wednesday the wind will weaken, and that's when the heatwave will reach its maximum intensity. The heat dome is positioned directly over Vojvodina. You won't believe it—it has settled right over our region, between the Dinaric Alps, the Alps and the Carpathian Mountains, and from Wednesday it will remain above us. Temperatures will exceed 40°C for several consecutive days," Ristić said on TV Prva's morning program.

According to Ristić, the hottest days will be Thursday and Friday next week, when temperatures could reach up to 48°C in direct sunlight, while air temperatures in the shade are expected to climb to 41°C.

"In Belgrade, we expect temperatures of up to 41°C in the shade on Thursday and Friday. That means anyone directly exposed to the sun could experience temperatures of 47°C to 48°C. It will be extremely dangerous to remain in direct sunlight. There will be little to no wind, and the combination of high humidity and intense heat will make conditions feel particularly oppressive," Ristić told TV Prva.

Ristić added that there is no rain in sight.

He advised people to avoid going outdoors during the hottest part of the day and said the current heatwave is expected to end around August 10. According to him, this will also be the last heatwave of this magnitude to affect Serbia this summer.

"From August 10, the weather will begin to change and gradually become cooler. That doesn't mean temperatures will immediately drop to around 20°C, but we should see occasional days with highs between 30°C and 35°C," Ristić told TV Prva.

"The Danube's water level will continue to fall," he added.

Forecasts indicate that September will bring summer-like temperatures ranging from 26°C to 31°C, with no significant surprises or major heatwaves expected.

Belgrade warmest at 26°C at 7 a.m., Sjenica coolest at 11°C

At 7:00 a.m., Belgrade was the warmest location in Serbia, with a temperature of 26°C, while the lowest temperature of 11°C was recorded in Sjenica, according to the State Hydrometeorological Institute of Serbia (RHMZ).

Zrenjanin recorded 25°C, while Novi Sad, Banatski Karlovac and Veliko Gradište each registered 23°C.

The State Hydrometeorological Institute (RHMZ) has issued a warning for a prolonged heatwave across Serbia, forecasting maximum temperatures of 35°C to 38°C, with some areas expected to reach 40°C.

The heatwave is expected to persist throughout the first ten days of August, with the most intense conditions forecast between August 5 and August 8, when daytime highs of around 40°C are expected in most parts of the country.

Tropical nights are also forecast in urban areas, with overnight lows ranging from 20°C to 24°C, while in Belgrade minimum temperatures are expected to remain between 23°C and 26°C.

Red weather alerts are in effect for the regions of Banat, Bačka and the Pomoravlje area, while the rest of Serbia is under an orange weather alert.
