Snow showers are coming
During the evening and night, precipitation will fall as rain, sleet, and snow in hilly and mountainous areas, while local snow showers are expected toward the end of the week, the State Hydrometeorological Institute of Serbia reported.
During the evening, the weather will be cloudy, and in the north—locally also in central areas—intermittent light rain is expected. In the eastern part of the country, it will snow.
According to the State Hydrometeorological Institute (RHMZ), new precipitation is expected overnight from the south and east of Serbia—rain in lower-lying areas and snow in hilly and mountainous regions. In the second half of the night, rain in lower areas of southern and central Serbia will also turn into sleet and snow.
“The wind will be mostly moderate; in the Danube basin, the Sava basin, the Morava valley, as well as in eastern mountainous areas it will at times be very strong, while in other regions it will be light to moderate,” the website states.
Weather on Thursday, December 25
On Thursday, cloudy and slightly colder weather is expected. Snow will mainly fall in areas south of the Sava and Danube rivers, with the formation of a snow cover. In Vojvodina, after a dry morning, precipitation during the day will mostly be in the form of rain or sleet. By evening, precipitation will cease in most regions, except in eastern Serbia, where snowfall is expected to stop later during the night.
The wind will be light to moderate, and at times strong in eastern Serbia, the Danube basin, the Sava basin, and the Morava valley, blowing from the east and southeast.
Temperatures in the first part of the day will range from 0 to 5°C, and in the afternoon and evening from −3 to 2°C.
In eastern Serbia, due to intense precipitation and strong winds, snowdrifts are expected to form, especially in hilly and mountainous areas.
Weather forecast through the end of the year
On Friday, moderately to completely cloudy weather is expected, without precipitation, while Saturday will bring partial clearing.
From Sunday through January 1, the weather will be changeable, with a local occurrence of short-term snow or snow showers, according to the State Hydrometeorological Institute (RHMZ).
“Throughout the entire period, light to moderate frost is expected in the morning hours, with daytime temperatures ranging from 1 to 6°C. A moderate to strong northerly and northwesterly wind will begin to blow—on Friday and Saturday (December 26–27) first in eastern Serbia, and from Sunday (December 28) in other parts of the country as well.”
