A new type of flu in Serbia; The number of patients is rising: "Batut" has issued a statement

Epidemiological surveillance of influenza for the 2025/2026 season began on September 29, 2025, with weekly monitoring and reporting in accordance with case definitions from surveillance units across the country, within the defined time period.

During the observed period, continuous monitoring of the epidemiological, clinical, and virological characteristics of the disease has been carried out.

Influenza-like illnesses

In the 43rd reporting week, from October 20 to October 26, 2025, a total of 7,193 cases of influenza-like illness were recorded in the Republic of Serbia, with an incidence rate of 107.9 per 100,000 inhabitants.

This rate is 4.9% higher than the previous week and 9.5% higher compared to the same period of the previous season.

Indicators of geographical spread show sporadic, isolated cases, while the intensity of clinical activity remains at a baseline level (below the defined epidemic threshold), and the trend of incidence is stable.

The highest age-specific rate, 335.80 per 100,000 inhabitants, was recorded in the 0–4 age group, followed by 206.44 per 100,000 in the 5–14 age group.

Acute respiratory infections

During the same reporting week, according to sentinel surveillance data from selected healthcare institutions, a total of 10,838 cases of acute respiratory infections were registered, with an incidence rate of 898.3 per 100,000 inhabitants.

This rate is 7.7% lower than the previous week (973.4 per 100,000 inhabitants) and 27.1% lower compared to the same period of the previous season.

In the 43rd reporting week, the Public Health Service reported laboratory-confirmed cases of influenza virus infection from Belgrade, Kolubara, and Srem districts.

Laboratory testing confirmed the presence of influenza viruses type A (untyped), AH3, and B.
