The polar vortex has broken up; It will snow through the so-called Vienna Gate
The polar vortex in the stratosphere broke up, which caused the movement of cold Arctic air towards southern latitudes, partly towards North America, partly towards Europe, explains meteorologist Ivan Ristic. This will bring a stronger cold weather to Serbia.

This phenomenon results in the entry of cold air into our region, which will through the so-called gates of Vienna cause significant cooling in the Balkans, as well as in our country, starting from Saturday, April 5.
As Ristić pointed out for "Blic", until Saturday, April 5, the weather in Serbia will be very changeable, which will also cause rain.
"Until Saturday, April 5, there will be a change of sun and clouds that will cause occasional rain. The highest daily temperature will be from 13 to 19 degrees," Ristic said.
Stronger cooling will arrive on Saturday night
Already on Saturday evening, and during the night in other parts of the country, according to the meteorologist, with a strong north and northwest wind, there will be a penetration of cold air and stronger clouds with rain.
"In the mountains, the rain will quickly turn to snow," added Ristić.
On Sunday and Monday, April 6 and 7, the weather will continue to be changeable, but noticeably colder and windier.
"The change of sun and clouds will cause snow showers or sleet. The maximum temperature will drop by about 10 degrees and will range from 5 to 10 degrees - noted the meteorologist.
The colder weather for this time of year will last until mid-April
The colder weather for this time of year will last until the middle of April, Ristić announces, and it will be changeable and occasionally with rain on the mountains with snow.
"The highest temperature gradually increased to a value of 10 to 15 degrees," adds Ristić.
According to the meteorologist's forecast, in the second week of April there will be light frost on clear nights, and minimum temperatures will range from -5 to 0.
"This frost can damage orchards and other agricultural crops, so all possible frost protection techniques should be applied," warns our interlocutor.
More sunny intervals only in the third decade of April
As we get closer to Easter, April 20th to be exact, the temperature will continue to rise gradually, but the highs will still be slightly below or around 20 degrees.
"Only in the third decade of April we expect more and more sunny and less cloudy intervals, but also less rain. The lowest temperature will be from 6 to 11 degrees, and the highest during the third decade will be from 18 to 23 degrees", Ristić points out.
According to Ristic, we are expecting a slightly colder and changeable April with frequent precipitation that will be within the normal range for this month.
"There can be snow in the second week of April in the lower areas. On the mountains in the first half of April, there is occasional snow, so the ski season can be extended," concludes Ristić.
