The gathering was organized under the slogan “Not in My Name,” with organizers saying they wanted to reject and deny the verdicts handed down against Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi.

The organizers announced that the protest would be peaceful, while war veterans of the former KLA also called on citizens to attend the gathering.

Protests over the Hague verdicts began yesterday, following the announcement of the decisions by the Kosovo Specialist Chambers.

During yesterday’s gathering and throughout last night, some groups of Albanians threw stones and Molotov cocktails at the EULEX building, which also houses the office of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers. Stones were also thrown at the government building of the provisional institutions in Pristina.

Yesterday, protesters also attempted to break through the police cordon and enter the government building.

The so-called Kosovo Police said that two people were detained during Wednesday’s protest in Pristina following the verdicts in The Hague, with one of them ordered to remain in custody for up to 48 hours.

On Wednesday, the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague sentenced former leaders of the so-called KLA to prison terms for war crimes: Hashim Thaçi and Jakup Krasniqi were each sentenced to 25 years in prison, Kadri Veseli to 18 years, and Rexhep Selimi to 13 years.
