Unrest continues in Pristina VIDEO
Albanians protesting the convictions of former KLA leaders for war crimes again pelted the EULEX headquarters with stones last night. Police in riot gear have been deployed outside key institutions. Further protests have been announced.
The demonstrators also threw pyrotechnic devices at the building last night, causing part of the roof to catch fire, Koha reported.
They were carrying so-called KLA flags and chanting “UÇK.” The building was guarded by the so-called Kosovo Police.
According to the latest information, new protests have also been scheduled, while police in full riot gear have been deployed outside Pristina’s main institutions.
Demonstrators also pelted the EULEX headquarters and the government building of the provisional institutions in Pristina with stones yesterday, and also attempted to storm the EULEX compound.
They announced that they would continue protesting against the Hague verdict, which they consider unjust.
The so-called Kosovo Police said that during Wednesday’s protest in Pristina, following the verdict in The Hague, it detained two people, one of whom was ordered to remain in custody for up to 48 hours.
On Wednesday, the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague sentenced former leaders of the so-called KLA, Hashim Thaçi and Jakup Krasniqi, to 25 years in prison each, Kadri Veseli to 18 years, and Rexhep Selimi to 13 years for war crimes.
