U.S. delivers blow to a "fake state": "Strategic dialogue with Pristina once obligations toward Serbs are met"

"We remain committed to advancing the shared interests of the United States and the people of Kosovo. We look forward to engaging in a Strategic Dialogue with Kosovo once the appropriate conditions are in place, including the fulfilment of Kosovo's commitments toward Kosovo Serbs," a State Department spokesperson said in a response to Radio Free Europe.

The State Department did not provide a timeline for when the strategic dialogue could begin, nor did it specify further which steps it expects from Pristina.

The United States suspended the strategic dialogue with Pristina in September 2025 for an indefinite period due to concerns over the actions of the caretaker government in Pristina.

The State Department spokesperson's statement came on the same day Washington launched the first round of a strategic dialogue with Serbia, aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation in areas such as security, the economy and foreign policy.

"Through this dialogue, the United States and Serbia will work toward achieving shared goals, including regional peace and stability, expanding business and educational ties, and building a more prosperous future," the State Department spokesperson said.

The U.S. Embassy in Pristina announced on September 12, 2025, that the United States had suspended the strategic dialogue with Pristina for an indefinite period.

At the time, the embassy said the decision was made due to "concerns regarding the actions of the current government," which it said had "increased tensions and instability" and limited the United States' ability to work productively with Pristina on shared priorities.

The decision followed measures taken by authorities in Pristina against Serbian institutions in Kosovo and Metohija.
