A new blow for Kurti: A response from the Council of Europe

"At this moment, we are not able to determine when this could happen. The official positions in this regard are in the competence of the relevant national authorities," the response from the Council of Europe stated.

Prime Minister of the temporary institutions of Pristina, Albin Kurti, stated that he does not accept that the beginning of the formation of the Community of Serbian Municipalities stands as the basis for the membership of the so-called Kosovo in the Council of Europe.

At the government meeting in Pristina, Kurti said that it was absurd to request that the draft of the CSM statute be sent to the Constitutional Court in Pristina, which according to the positions of Germany and France in the previous days, is a condition for the so-called membership issue.

Kosovo's accession to the Council of Europe is on the agenda of the Committee of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of 46 CoE member countries in the middle of this month.

Nevertheless, France and Germany asked Kosovo to initiate the necessary steps for the formation of the Community of Municipalities with a Serbian majority - not long after the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopted the recommendation on the admission of Kosovo to membership.

France, joined by Germany and Italy, wants to postpone the decision on the candidacy of the so-called Kosovo for membership in the Council of Europe at the May meeting of the Committee of Ministers, the Albanian Post reported, citing diplomatic sources.

France, Germany and Italy believe that Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe should be postponed until Pristina proves that it is committed to the formation of the CSM.

On April 16, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopted the draft report of the rapporteur for the so-called Kosovo in CoE Dora Bakoyanni, in which it is recommended that the so-called Kosovo is approved to become a member of the Council of Europe.
