Continuation of the trial of the former leaders of the KLA on September 29, Duncan concluded his testimony
The trial of the former leaders of the so-called KLA of Hashim Thaci, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi, who are accused of war crimes, will continue on September 29.
The defense's third witness, John Duncan, who served as an adviser to NATO commander Wesley Clark from 1998 to 2001, concluded his testimony on Tuesday.
During his testimony, Duncan claimed that the so-called KLA did not have a hierarchical structure and the zone commanders had real authority.
He also claimed that he had not seen any evidence that Hashim Thaci was the supreme leader of the so-called KLA. Duncan said that there was a lot of violence in Kosovo and Metohija in June 1999 and that he saw Serbian houses burning, but he claimed that the international forces had no evidence that there was organized violence.
During the last week, the first two defense witnesses testified - the former US Assistant Secretary of State James Rubin and Paul Williams, an expert in international law, who was the legal representative of the Pristina delegation in Rambouillet.
The defense of the former leaders of the so-called KLA began presenting evidence on September 15. Former leaders of the so-called KLA are charged in the indictment with war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in illegal detentions of KLA in Kosovo and Albania from January 1998 to December 2000.
The trial began in April 2023, and the prosecution finished presenting its evidence on April 16, 2025. During that period, the prosecution called 125 witnesses to the courtroom and produced around 3,000 pieces of material evidence.
During 1998 and 1999, the so-called KLA committed numerous crimes, murders and kidnappings against members of the army and police of the then Yugoslavia, Serbs and other non-Albanians, as well as Albanians who did not accept to be its collaborators or members.
