Brnabić: Today is an important day for our European journey; We are waiting for the ODIHR report VIDEO
President of the Assembly of Serbia, Ana Brnabić addresses the media at a press conference.
At the beginning, Brnabić explained that she convened the conference in order to explain to the public how far Serbia has come in its European integration.
"Today at 10:00 a.m. we had a meeting on European integration. Minister Nemanja Starović and the entire committee for European integration were at the meeting today, so that everyone could be present. We are currently fighting for the opening of Cluster three by the end of this year," said Brnabić.
She clarified that there is a lot of mistrust and differences among the organizations, the opposition and the government, and that we must all try to work together, for the sake of our European path.
"I wanted to inform the citizens that by the end of the day today we expect ODIHR's opinion on our proposed law on the voter list. As soon as we receive an answer and consider that answer, we will inform the citizens, because changing this law is one of the conditions for opening Cluster 3," she explained.
She then announced her trip to Brussels.
"In this regard, I will be in Brussels tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, where I will have a number of important meetings, with Commissioner Marta Kos, through representatives of the General Directorate for Enlargement, including Gert Koopman, and other relevant interlocutors," said Brnabić. "All the mentioned topics will be the subject of those talks. We are doing our best to open Cluster 3 by the end of the year and continue with European integrations," she explained further.
"I deeply believe that we are currently at a kind of turning point. If we do not receive a positive signal or feedback from the European Union by the end of the year, there is a real danger that the citizens of Serbia, who have already largely lost interest, will become completely disinterested in the country's European path," added Brnabić.
She then referred to the blockades that took place yesterday in Belgrade and throughout Serbia.
"Blockades are simply terror of the minority, mistreatment of citizens, and I can only condemn it," she said and added: "This has no sense, no purpose, no goal. Because of their entertainment, tens of thousands of citizens cannot live normally. This is nothing but violence and terror."
She then said that "once again, Serbia was able to make sure that the only goal of the blockaders became mere violence and terror of the citizens".
"Why they hate Serbia and our people so much, I don't know," she concluded.
