KFOR pulls out of Brđani settlement

Local officials in the northern Kosovska Mitrovica suburb of Brdjani have reached a deal with KFOR to have the international forces pull out of the neighborhood. Serbs in Brdjani have been protesting for four days over of the restoration of Albanian homes in that community. International officials used shock bombs, rubber bullets and tear gas yesterday to stop Serbs from getting closer to the so-called yellow dividing line between the Albanians and Serbs. KFOR pulls out of Brdjani settlement “Today KFOR agreed to pull back from its position and for the people of Brdjani to disperse peacefully,” local Serb official Sinisa Lazic said. “They took note of our demands. Our goal is to not have any victims. It is not our goal at any time to have the situation in Brdjani escalate into violence,” Lazic stressed. He said that locals had called for a meeting with Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic, Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac and Kosovo Minister Goran Bogdanovic. Brdjani officials announced that protests would continue until an agreement was reached and the Albanians shelved plans to restore five homes in the neighborhood.

“Today KFOR agreed to pull back from its position and for the people of Brđani to disperse peacefully,” local Serb official Siniša Lazić said.

“They took note of our demands. Our goal is to not have any victims. It is not our goal at any time to have the situation in Brđani escalate into violence,” Lazić stressed.

He said that locals had called for a meeting with Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dačić, Defense Minister Dragan Šutanovac and Kosovo Minister Goran Bogdanović.
