At the railway station in the Belgrade suburb of Batajnica three railroad cars have derailed from a moving freight train. One of them was carrying propane-butane, but the gas did not leak. Freight train derails near Belgrade Nenad Stanisavljevic of the Serbian Railawys said that the incident occurred at 00:11 CET and during the night two cars of the train, traveling from Novi Sad to Belgrade, were returned to the line, while the third, containing the gas, which had derailed on both of its axles, was expected to be drained of the gas and set aright. “The cistern was not damaged, there was no leak or danger to residents and the environment, and transportation immediately resumed on another track, so there was no holdup,” said Stanisavljevic. He added that the transporter of the gas, the Belgrade company TNG, had been informed of the event and its experts were expected to arrive at the scene. According to Stanisavljevic, the propane-butane will first be poured into another cistern to continue its trip, and then the derailed car will be raised. During the night, as a precaution, Serbian Railway workers and firefighting units were on hand. Stanisavljevic added that Customs had also been informed of the incident, as the transport was from international trade.
