NEW YORK A session of the UN Security Council to discuss UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon's latest report on the situation in Kosovo will be held on March 22. The session was originally scheduled for February 22, but was postponed for March. UNSC session on Kosovo scheduled for March 22 In his regular quarterly report on Kosovo, Ban underscored that an essential step forward was achieved in the previous period by elevating the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina to a high political level, but called on the Kosovo authorities to respond decisively to any act of hostility towards Serbs, such as the incident that happened during the Orthodox Christmas celebration. A number of Serbs were arrested by the Kosovo police and beaten for no apparent reason. Ban said in his report that while many difficult issues still lie ahead, the resumption of talks is a strong signal of commitment of both sides to peaceful dialogue and overcoming the burdens of the past conflict. When it comes to the situation in northern Kosovska Mitrovica, Ban underlined that coordinated action and attention are needed to ensure that the difficult issues are addressed in good faith to avert future tensions. The UN secretary-general noted that alongside the high level political process, sustained efforts to promote reconciliation and increase trust among the communities in Kosovo are also important.
