Corruption arrests expected in Kosovo

Pristina daily Express writes that three of the largest parties in Kosovo will be hit by the arrests of some of their senior officials soon. The daily’s source states that EULEX is not investigating only cases of corruption in the current government, but of all officials in Kosovo since 2000. Corruption arrests expected in Kosovo “Hashim Thaci’s Democratic Party of Kosovo, President Fatmir Sejdiu’s Democratic League of Kosovo, and former prime minister Ramush Haradinaj’s Alliance for the Future of Kosovo will be ‘in the same pool’” the daily stated. “These parties will have to give EULEX and the Kosovo public explanations on the abuses of their officials since 2000,” Express states. As far as the Democratic Party is concerned, the daily said that there are two current ministers and several local officials, other than Transport Minister Fatmir Limaj, who are being investigated. EULEX is investigating some ministers and ministries that are currently being led by the Democratic League, as well as municipal presidents coming from the party. The daily did not list any names, but the source said that there are more than 100 cases that EULEX will be treating as “serious cases.” The source added that not only party officials are involved in these cases, but also family members of party officials and owners of media companies in Kosovo.
