China and U.S. hold "constructive and positive" talks

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and President of China Xi Jinping pledged in Beijing to strengthen dialogue and deepen cooperation between the two countries.

China and U.S. hold "constructive and positive" talks

Xi said that the Chinese side supports a new type of relationship and wants to strengthen dialogue with the U.S., deepen cooperation and handle properly differences, according to China Radio International.

The Chinese president also stated that the two countries should continue with close high-level exchanges and strategic coordination, and expand cooperation in trade, humanitarian and military areas, in the energy sector, and strengthen cooperation on major international and regional issues.

Kerry noted that the two countries are marking the 35 anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations.

The U.S. values highly the development of relations with China, while the U.S. and China are two countries as major economies that need to strengthen essential cooperation and reduce differences, underlined Kerry.

Xi and Kerry also discussed the situation on the Korean peninsula, according to China Radio International.

AFP reports that the U.S. still hopes for better cooperation with Beijing, "Pyongyang's only ally," in order to persuade North Korea to abandon its nuclear program.
