Serbian film wins three awards in Venice

“No One's Child” had its world premiere in the packed Perla Hall on September 4. After the screening, the movie crew received standing ovations from the audience, Tanjug reported.

The Serbian movie also got the award by FIPRESCI critics for the best movie in this category encompassing all accompanying programs of the Venice movie festival, awarded by the International Federation of Film Critics.

The Federation of Film Critics of Europe and the Mediterranean, FEDEORA, granted “No One's Child” the best screenplay award.

“No One's Child” closed the program of the 29th International Critics' Week, which, besides it, included six debut movies.

The movie is based on the fascinating, true story about a feral boy whom hunters found among wolves in a forest in the mountains of Bosnia-Herzegovina in the mid-1980s.

The boy was sent to the institution for children without parental care in Belgrade in an attempt to socialize him and coincidentally got the Muslim name - Haris. Contrary to most predictions, he was developing and making friends quickly.

When the war in Bosnia broke out in 1992, Haris got the letter from local Bosnian authorities which asked for his immediate return. Upon returning to Bosnia, Haris had nowhere to go. While wandering aimlessly, he came across a group of soldiers that gave him a gun and took him with them.

Denis Murić, a boy from Kosovo with no previous acting experience, plays the main role, and Serbian actor Miloš Timotijević plays a tutor in the institution for children without parental care.

The screenplay and costumes grabbed audiences' attention, as well as powerful cinematography by Damjan Radovanović.

The film was produced by Miroslav Mogorović from the Art & Popcorn production company.

Director Vuk Ršumović, 39, holds a dramaturgy degree from the Belgrade-based Faculty of Dramatic Arts. He has worked a lot on TV, wrote several screenplays for short, animated and documentary movies, and “No One's Child” is his first feature film.
