Fire in western Serbia to be put out on Tuesday

TARA, BELGRADE A wildfire on Mt. Tara in western Serbia is localized and it should be completely put out by the end of the day. This is according to Serbian police (MUP) Emergency Situations Sector Chief Predrag Maric. Fire in western Serbia to be put out on Tuesday He told Tanjug that Russian Ilyushin and Beriev planes started flying over Mt. Tara early on Tuesday morning and that they would have as many flights as possible during the morning. Maric stressed that the fire had not caused any new material damage and that nobody was injured. He explained that the fire was in an inaccessible area and that only planes were able to be used in the operation. “105 firefighters are at the scene, along with Gendarmerie and Serbian Army (VS) officers,” he added. “We are hoping to put a stop to the fire by the end of the day,” Emergency Situations Sector chief noted. Emergency Situations Sector’s Djordje Babic told B92 that the Sector would continue to deploy its people in the area in order to prevent the fire from spreading any further. He added that planes stationed at the Nis airport would also be included in the operation. “The Serbian government has the funds to repair the damage caused by the wildfires,” said Regional Development, State Administration and Local Self-Government Minister Verica Kalanovic. Emergency Situations Sector’s Đorđe Babić told B92 that the Sector would continue to deploy its people in the area in order to prevent the fire from spreading any further. He added that planes stationed at the Niš airport would also be included in the operation.

“The Serbian government has the funds to repair the damage caused by the wildfires,” said Regional Development, State Administration and Local Self-Government Minister Verica Kalanović.
