Šišić asks for conditional release

A court in Rome confirmed Šišić’s conviction of a 15-year prison term for taking down a European Union helicopter in Croatia in 1992.

One French and four Italian diplomats were killed in the incident.

The former Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) pilot was first sentenced to life in prison, a decision which was later reversed by the Italian courts, which gave him 15 years for multiple homicides.

Šišić was arrest in May 2001 in Hungary by way of a Croatian arrest warrant given to Interpol.

He was extradited to Italy in June 2002.
