Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou said that his goal is to achieve a complete re-orientation of the Greece economy. He said that Athens is currently working on implementing significant reforms, with which it intends to pull the country out of crisis. Papandreou said that wages in the public sector and pensions must be decreased, adding that a reduction of state expenses and an increase in Value Added Taxes (VATs) is also needed. Papandreou said that Greece will use interest to return financial aid coming from the EU and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He said that the current government was met with taxation chaos and that the competitiveness of Greece was hurt because of this. He added that the Greek industry is not poor, but it was lead poorly in the past. “A huge, over-centralized, ineffective and bureaucratic state enabled corrupted officials, which created a culture of tolerance toward not paying taxes,” Papandreou said.
