The war crimes trial against Branimir Glavas and six other indictees begins in Zagreb today. Glavas is accused of war crimes allegedly committed against Serb civilians in Osijek in 1991. Glavas trial under way The trial will begin with a reading of the indictment, followed by the indictees’ pleas, who have been accused of torturing five and killing two civilians in a garage at the Osijek Secretariat for National Defense. Glavas, lawmaker in the Croatian parliament, is currently in a prison hospital in Zagreb, while the other indictees are in prison. The prosecution will call as a witness Krunoslav Fehir who, after torture, on Glavas’s orders, shot one of the Serb prisoners. An autopsy later revealed that the prisoner in question had died as a result of consuming sulphuric acid.
