Top officials meet, discuss "situation in MUP"

The president is now due to "address the nation" at noon local time.

According to Nikolić's cabinet, he will make his address via the public broadcaster RTS and speak about "the situation in the MUP."

The meeting today came after Vučić on Thursday said there were "different attacks coming from many areas of social life" a month and a half after his cabinet was formed.

"The security system should serve to provide increased economic activity to Serbia, and not for the state to create a crisis for itself," he said, among other things.

Vučić also announced the reaction of the state "in the shortest possible time," but did not indicate who was responsible for these "attacks."

All this comes as the media are speculating about possible sackings of high-ranking police officials.

This is partly because of the Šarić case and the accusations he made, and also as Montenegrin PM Milo Đukanović warned that there was "nervousness of the security-media structures in Serbia."

Several weeks ago Traffic Police chief General Dragiša Simić, and Miloš Perović, head of the witness protection unit, were both sacked.
