The chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Kosovo and Metohija today submitted a petition signed by 70,000 Serbs in Kosovo to the parliament speaker. Ljubomir Kragovic handed the petition - demanding that elections be organized in the territory of Kosovo as well - to Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic. Petition for elections in Kosovo submitted to speaker "As I announced yesterday, I handed over the petition. I was received (by Djukic-Dejanovic) and she took the signatures, along with a lump of soil from (Serb enclave and monastery) Gracanica," Kragovic told reporters. He added that the speaker told him she had done "everything she needed to do by calling elections and that her jurisdiction ended there", while "the rest" was a matter of political will. According to Kragovic, the speaker also stated that she "regretted that the seriousness of the situation was not understood", and that she shared his concern and suffering over the neglect of a part of the territory of Serbia. Djukic-Dejanovic on March 13 called parliamentary and local elections, and this week she also scheduled the presidential vote. The announced holding of local elections in Kosovo is being opposed by the Kosovo Albanian authorities in Pristina and some in the international community, who are quoting UN Security Council Resolution 1244, and saying that the voting would not be in line with that document.
