All 8 Serbian nationals injured in yesterday’s fatal bus crash near Luxor are in a stable condition in hospital, and have been visited by President Boris Tadic. The names of the dead and injured have been released. A day of mourning has been declared in Serbia. Egypt: Injured in stable condition The names of those who died in the accident are: Slavica Trpeska (born 1987) from Zrenjanina, Zoran Janjic (1958) from Belgrade, Ivanka Janjic (1964) from Belgrade, Mara Janjic (1994) from Belgrade, Snezana Rodic (1969) from Novi Sad, Irina Rodic (1995) from Novi Sad, Zdenka Jovicki (1973) from Novi Sad, Stefan Jovicki (1997) from Novi Sad and Katarina Jovicki (2001) from Novi Sad. The names of the injured have also been announced: Ivan Ergelasev from Zrenjanin, Ivica Nesic from Leskovac, Miljana Cerovic from Leskovac, Ivan Babic from Pancevo, Sanja Popadic from Pancevo, Tijana Lukic from Belgrade, Miroslav Lukic from Zrenjanin and Sasa Jovicki from Beocin. Tadic said that the accident that claimed the lives of nine Serbian nationals had been an “appalling tragedy.” ”At this difficult time, it is good news that all our citizens who have been admitted to hospital are well and the medical personnel’s forecast for their recovery is very good,” said the president after visiting the injured at the Ali Ahli Benk hospital in Cairo. He also spoke with some of the injured, who expressed a desire to return home as soon as possible. The hospital director said that the condition of all eight patients was good and stable. “I hope all will return home fit and healthy,” he said, adding that he was sorry about what had come to pass and that Egypt was their second home. All eight patients, who were initially taken to hospital in Hurghada, were transferred subsequently to Cairo. The accident, in which nine Serbian nationals lost their lives and eight were injured, took place early on Thursday morning, on the Hurghada-Luxor road. Two Egyptian nationals also died in the crash. The Serbian Foreign Ministry has dispatched a special consular team to take care of all necessary consular work over the coming days, including offering support to the injured, and facilitating the speedy repatriation of the victims’ bodies. In coordination with the Interior Ministry, the next of kin of the individuals who had been staying in Egypt have been informed about all the details that the authorities in Belgrade currently have at their disposal. The ministry’s political director, Borislav Stefanovic, said that there had been children in the bus, but added that the ministry had still to receive full and official information regarding the victims and the injured. Serbian Ambassador to Egypt Dejan Vasiljevic said that the injured had received a visit from Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, who had insisted that the injured Serbian tourists should receive the best medical treatment possible. “The Serbian Foreign Ministry and our embassy in Egypt have effectively been placed on a state of alert,” said Vasiljevic, adding that “the whole embassy’s staff are on their feet.” (Beta-AP)
