On-duty MUP inspector stabbed in N. Sad

A Novi Sad MUP Criminal Investigations Police inspector was stabbed in the stomach today during an arrest. The inspector was taking part in an operation to apprehend a suspect in an extortion case, when Elvir J., 37, of Novi Sad, stabbed him with a knife. On-duty MUP inspector stabbed in N. Sad The plainclothes officer was following the suspect as he attempted to extort money from an elderly man, and moved in to make the arrest, when he was attacked. However, the inspector, whose identity has not been disclosed, managed to subdue his attacker. He was assisted by other police operatives and members of the Novi Sad Gendarmerie detachment. The policeman was released from a local emergency center after receiving treatment for his wounds.
