Military intelligence, VBA, head Svetko Kovac says this agency has no information on any of the Hague indictees being helped by the Army. Kovac said that there is no indication that they are hiding in the military facilities or that the Army and the Defense Ministry members are in any way helping them hide. “No evidence Army’s hiding fugitives” “We have checked all the information and indications and were unable to confirm any of them,” Kovac said in an interview published by Odbrana (Defense) magazine. He added that inspections had been carried out continuously since April 2003. “I would particularly like to underscore that so far we have not come across any information that ICTY indictees or their security have any links with the killing of two guardsmen at the Belgrade barracks in 2004,” said Kovac of the so-called Topcider case. “The action team set up by the Serbian government coordinates all activities. The VBA has clear orders in that respect and is carrying them with responsibility,” the agency’s director said. Kovac pointed out that “the cooperation with the Hague Tribunal is not only an obligation of the security services”, underscoring that “every officer in the army's chain of command is responsible for possible hiding of indictees in the facilities that they are responsible for”.
