The Belgrade bypass will open only after all the work has been completed, say Mayor Dragan Djilas and Infrastructure Minister Milutin Mrkonjic. The two men visited the construction site at the Orlovaca ring-road along with National Investment Plan Minister Verica Kalanovic last night. Belgrade bypass late, but nearing completion It was earlier announced that the bypass would be opened on October 15. The mayor and the ministers say that the tarmac will be laid in ten days. Despite working round-the-clock, the bypass is still not finished. Djilas says that the bypass will be opened only after all the works have been finished. “We don’t want to play around with Belgraders by opening the bypass one day only to close it down the next to finish the works,” he said. This is not the first time that the mayor and infrastructure minister have visited the site during the night. Minister Mrkonjic said less than a month ago that the work would be finished by October 15. “Finishing this section for me is revolutionary. Why did we make a promise? Because we believed. If we hadn’t promised it, the work wouldn’t be finished till next May,” infrastructure minister said. Kalanovic said that the money from the National Investment Fund to complete the bypass had been secured.
