According to reports, although La Ni&ntilde;a typically involves a temporary drop in temperatures in the central and eastern Pacific, many regions are expected to experience warmer-than-usual conditions, increasing the risk of floods and droughts that could impact crops, Reuters reported.The WMO stated there is a 55 percent probability that a weakened La Ni&ntilde;a phenomenon could be in effect from this month through February next year.In mid-November, oceanic and atmospheric indicators pointed to this potential development, the organization added.Meteorologists also noted a 65 percent likelihood of neutral weather conditions from January to March next year, and a 75 percent likelihood for the period from February to April.The World Meteorological Organization further predicted that the natural climate phenomenon El Ni&ntilde;o, which typically fuels tropical cyclones in the Pacific and enhances rainfall that causes flooding in parts of the Americas and beyond, is unlikely to occur.Seasonal forecasts and their impact on weather can mean millions of dollars in savings for agriculture, health, and transportation sectors, the WMO added, emphasizing that preparing for predicted weather conditions can save thousands of lives, Reuters reported.
