The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, stated today at the Subotica railway station that the trip from Belgrade went excellently and quickly, lasting only 68 minutes."The ride took 68 minutes. It went by so fast for me — from the center of Belgrade to the center of Subotica in just 1 hour and 8 minutes, incredible," Vučić said after arriving in Subotica on the high-speed train for the inauguration of the Novi Sad–Subotica section.Vučić was welcomed at the Subotica station by city officials and a large crowd of citizens."Even the blockers will use this railway, just like everyone else, along with these wonderful trains. The first time a rail line was connected here was when King Milan inaugurated it, and so many years have passed since then. We grew up in a different time and lost what was built. I am proud that today, here in Subotica, we are making history, whatever it may be. In your time, the high-speed railway has been opened. In just a few months, you’ll be able to reach Budapest in an hour and a half, from Belgrade in just 1 hour and 10 minutes," Vučić told the gathered citizens."I am especially happy that today I can say we did this together with the Hungarians. We worked in a brotherly and friendly way, building bridges and ties between two nations whose relations through history were often much worse. I wish Ištvan were here, he was a great man. When we first went to Budapest and spoke with Orbán, we began making these plans. That’s when we realized we had to trust one another to preserve peace and stability for our people. Fifteen years ago, there were 45 times more interethnic incidents in northern Serbia, in Vojvodina. Friendship and an extended hand changed that. This railway will also mean more investors, and many more people from Belgrade and Novi Sad will be coming to Subotica. We’ll be able to connect Hungary and Serbia even more," emphasized the Serbian President."From Wednesday until Sunday, you’ll be able to use the trains for free, and after that, tickets will be priced accordingly. And from March, passenger traffic will extend to Budapest," he added. The "Soko" train, which departed Belgrade Central station at 11:30 a.m. carrying President Vučić, arrived in Subotica before 12:40 p.m. This marked the first ride on the newly opened Novi Sad–Subotica line, with the journey from Belgrade lasting just 68 minutes.     After two weeks of testing, the third section of the Belgrade–Subotica high-speed railway, from Novi Sad to Subotica, has been put into operation."I believe this is a great success for Serbia," said President Aleksandar Vučić while traveling on the high-speed train to Subotica. The President of Serbia stated today that he expects the Belgrade–Budapest railway to be opened for freight traffic within two months, and for passenger traffic by the end of February or the beginning of March next year."By the end of February or the beginning of March, we’ll be going directly to Budapest. What remains is to resolve many mutual issues, particularly delays at the border due to the European Union. We are working on the best and simplest solutions so that we can really reach Budapest in 2 hours and 45 minutes. That’s more than twice as fast as it takes to drive there now," Vučić told reporters aboard the train en route to Subotica, on the occasion of opening the Novi Sad–Subotica section."For Serbia, it’s not only important to build high-speed railways, but also regular ones. That’s why we are now trying to secure funds to construct and reconstruct the lines between Pančevo, Opovo, Zrenjanin, Kikinda, Subotica, and Sombor, and reconnect them with Vrbas," the Serbian President said."This has to be completed relatively soon, including the Novi Beograd station. It will be used just as much as the central station. It won’t only serve the EXPO, but also the people living in this part of the city," he added.     View this post on Instagram           A post shared by Aleksandar Vučić (@buducnostsrbijeav) “It will take us 2 hours and 40–45 minutes from Belgrade to Budapest. People believe it will take 3 and a half hours because they start counting only after leaving Belgrade and before entering Budapest. But from the center of Belgrade to the center of Budapest, it will take 2 hours and 45 minutes,” Vučić announced.“There will be stops every two hours. We’ll have 9 of these trains and 4 others that will only stop at Belgrade–Novi Sad–Vrbas–Subotica. The ones that stop at more stations will run more frequently. In Germany and other countries, people cover much longer distances. Every day they travel by train roughly the same distance as Subotica–Belgrade,” the Serbian president explained.“We are acquiring more trains, the procurement is not yet complete. They are all beautiful trains — we have Stadler, Chinese, Spanish... We will have all the most modern trains,” he added. To Europe via Budapest“We Serbs are connecting with the whole of Europe through Budapest. We made a strategic decision to link ourselves via Hungary, and thanks to Viktor Orbán we started building this railway. I am happy that we managed to achieve this with the help of our Chinese friends. In economic terms, it will mean a lot for the development of our freight transport, as well as for connecting Belgrade and Budapest with Central and Southeastern Europe,” emphasized the President of Serbia.“We also face the construction of the Belgrade–Niš railway. We must begin negotiations with our Chinese partners for the section from Valjevo to the Montenegrin border,” he added. He also spoke with His Excellency about the population of Belgrade. According to him, he believes there are far more people in Belgrade than the official numbers show. “People come to Belgrade every day from Srem, Bačka... The figure is around 1.5 to 1.6 million,” Vučić said.“The proposal is for the return ticket Belgrade–Subotica on the high-speed train to be 2,000 dinars. On Wednesday at 12 the passenger service will begin, and by law there must be a 5-day pause. From Wednesday to Sunday, the transport will be free of charge,” he explained.    The high-speed railway Novi Sad – Subotica is being inaugurated today, and the first ride departed from the “Beograd Centar” railway station to Subotica with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić aboard the “Soko” train.Accompanying President Vučić on the inaugural journey to Subotica are Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Aleksandra Sofronijević, Hungarian Deputy Minister for Transport and Construction Nándor Csepreghy, and Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Li Ming. Also on board are Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Adrijana Mesarović, Deputy Prime Minister of Vojvodina Maja Gojković, Mayor of Belgrade Aleksandar Šapić, Hungarian Ambassador to Serbia József Magyar, President of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians Bálint Pásztor, and former Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlović.Among the passengers is also Vukosav Djordjević (105) from Zaječar, whom President Vučić visited a few months ago and invited to join him for a ride on the new high-speed train to Subotica — an invitation that Djordjević gladly accepted.  High-Speed RailwayThe project for the construction of a high-speed railway, designed for speeds of up to 200 kilometers per hour between Novi Sad and Kelebija, included the double-track line and station facilities along the route, the reconstruction and modernization of the Novi Sad, Vrbas, and Subotica railway hubs, the separation of railway crossings from road and pedestrian/cycling paths, as well as the installation of electrotechnical infrastructure that enables safe traffic at projected speeds and the implementation of the European Train Control System (ETCS).Approximately 273 kilometers of new tracks were laid, including the double-track main line and station tracks. Along the Novi Sad – Subotica high-speed railway route, 58 new structures were built, including six bridges with a total length of 2,330 meters, five galleries, 15 underpasses, and 27 overpasses with a combined length of almost four kilometers. In addition, for the first time in Serbia, three ecoducts were constructed, each 46 meters long, designed to allow animals to safely cross over the railway.
