Optical networks of several operators were "sabotaged" in six regions of France, according to the police.

The capital city of Paris, which is currently hosting the Olympics, was not affected.

Installations belonging to French telecom companies SFR and "Bouigues Telecom" were vandalized, French newspaper Le Parisien and TV BFM reported.

Cables were cut in southern France, and installations near Luxembourg and Paris were sabotaged.

Netblocks said the data showed multiple internet service providers outages in France.

French Secretary of State for Digital Affairs Marina Ferrari confirmed the acts of vandalism carried out on Sunday evening.

Ferrari said the Defense Electronic Communications Center is working with operators until communications and services are fully restored, under her supervision.

"I condemn in the strongest terms these cowardly and irresponsible actions," Ferrari wrote on the X network.

French telecoms regulator ARCEP said the acts of vandalism affected about 11,000 customers, mostly from SFR and Free. An investigation into the incident has been launched.
