Storm Austin hit the United Kingdom today, bringing winds of up to 130 kilometers per hour, while around 10,000 households were left without electricity in Cornwall.
Winds uprooted large trees, which blocked roads and damaged cars, Sky News reported.
Meteorologists have warned of strong winds, particularly in the southwest of the country.
According to reports, 9,251 households in Cornwall were left without electricity, while airlines canceled flights to and from Bristol, Cornwall, and Exeter.
The storm, the first of the season, also brought heavy rain and large waves. Several roads in Cornwall were closed due to the strength of the winds.
Four schools in Cornwall were also closed, while the city council announced that 77 schools would start classes later than scheduled.
Weather warnings are in effect across England and Wales.
Meteorologists are forecasting another storm, named Storm Bawler, with winds of up to 128 kilometers per hour, which is expected to hit Scotland, northern England, and Northern Ireland hardest.
It was also noted that the whole of the United Kingdom could expect heavy rainfall on Saturday as Storm Bawler approaches from the west.
