Araghchi: "We are ready to give it another chance if the U.S. is sincere in its intentions"
Iran is prepared to give diplomacy another chance if there is “strong evidence” that the United States genuinely wants to build trust and achieve a fair resolution to the conflicts in the Middle East, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said today.
“However, if the United States chooses war instead of diplomacy, it will undoubtedly lead to an even greater strategic failure,” Araghchi wrote in an opinion piece for the Financial Times.
He reiterated his earlier statements that Iran has “absolutely no trust” in the sincerity of the U.S. administration’s purported desire for peace with Iran.
“The evidence is there for everyone to see: in June 2025 and February 2026, they bombed us while we were actively engaged in negotiations. And in June this year, shortly after President Masoud Pezeshkian and President Trump signed an agreement, we were attacked for the third time. How, then, can we trust the American president again?” Araghchi said.
According to him, the White House refuses to acknowledge the growing cost that ordinary Americans are paying as a result of the war against Iran.
“Even the rating agency Moody’s estimates that the aggression against Iran has cost American consumers approximately $265 billion this year, or around $2,000 per household,” Araghchi stressed, adding that the reality is that Iran, due to its geographical location, has enormous influence over maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
He argued that Trump entered the war based on false assumptions about Iran’s strength.
“It seems he is still being wrongly assured that our armed forces are not prepared to defend our homeland, despite all the evidence to the contrary. On the contrary, our fearless military has drawn valuable lessons from the acts of aggression committed by Israel and the United States since 2025,” Araghchi stated.
