Due to the incident, two F-16 fighter jets were scrambled, and residents in the northern part of the county were sent an alert via the RO-Alert system, Digi24 reported.

The ministry said that a group of five aerial targets was detected at 1:27 a.m. over Ukrainian territory, in the Izmail area, near the Romanian border. Three minutes later, authorities issued an alert to residents in the northern part of Tulcea County.

Two Romanian F-16 fighter jets from the 86th Air Base in Borcea took off to monitor the situation.

Radars subsequently detected that one of the drones had entered Romanian airspace about two kilometres south of Pardina.

According to the ministry, the drone flew over Romanian territory for around 10 minutes along the Kiliya branch of the Danube before returning to Ukraine.

It left Romanian airspace approximately 13 kilometres southwest of Kiliya Veche. Shortly afterwards, explosions were reported on Ukrainian territory, the Ministry of National Defence said.

The air raid alert in the northern part of Tulcea County was lifted at 2:42 a.m.
