A more than 100-year-old record is about to fall: The hottest summer ever is coming

Meteorologists say that, for last year’s temperature record in Britain to be broken, temperatures only need to remain around average through the end of August, the BBC reported.

According to data from the UK Met Office, the average temperature in Britain during the meteorological summer (from June 1 to August 10) currently stands at 16.48°C, which is 1.88°C above the 1991–2020 average.

During the summer of 2025, the average temperature in Britain, which takes into account both the overnight minimum and daytime maximum temperatures, was 16.10°C.

This is consistent with evidence that summers are becoming hotter and drier as a result of climate change, the British public broadcaster said.

The highest temperature recorded in Britain so far this summer was 38°C, recorded in Lingwood, Norfolk, on June 26.
