Deadly attacks on politicians in Thessaloniki; Prime Minister responds PHOTO

The mother of New Democracy politician Vagia Nestora had been intubated in the intensive care unit of Hippokration Hospital after suffering severe burns across her body. Despite doctors’ efforts, she succumbed to her injuries.

Afroditi Nestora was also hospitalized in the Surgical Clinic, while her father, who is experiencing mild respiratory problems, was admitted to the Pulmonology Clinic, Kathimerini reported.

According to initial findings of the investigation, two perpetrators of the attacks against New Democracy officials in Thessaloniki threw canisters containing an incendiary substance at three houses within a 17-minute window before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle.

The first attack was recorded at 04:18 in Pilea, when the attackers placed and ignited a bottle containing an explosive liquid outside a property owned by Zisis Joakimovic, president of the New Democracy Executive Committee in Thessaloniki.

A few minutes later, at 04:23, an attack took place in the Thessaloniki district of Toumba, where unknown individuals threw a canister of flammable liquid at the entrance of an apartment building where former ND MP for the Thessaloniki region Savvas Anastasiades lives.

The attackers also threw a canister containing flammable liquid at the home of Afroditi Nestora, after which the explosion ignited two cars and two motorcycles parked nearby.
