Chaos in Russia; State of emergency declared – Sirens echoed, residents evacuated VIDEO
A state of emergency has been declared in the Slavyansky district of Krasnodar Krai due to a dam breach on the Kuban River, and residents of affected areas have been evacuated, local emergency services said.
According to the competent services, the breach in the dam near the Neftyanik garden settlement is between 25 and 30 meters wide, creating a threat to the village of Urma, located about 9.5 kilometers from the damage, TASS reported.
Residents were warned by sirens, and evacuations were carried out, with some people placed in temporary accommodation.
Several hundred rescuers and dozens of equipment units are on site, while tens of thousands of sandbags have been deployed and protective embankments have been built.
According to initial assessments by emergency services, water has not entered residential buildings; only agricultural land has been flooded, and the river level has begun to drop.
Minor damage has also been recorded at other locations in the region, but without endangering the population, the competent services said.
