White House in panic: Will the Democrats take control of the House of Representatives in 2026?
The Democrats will regain the majority in the U.S. House of Representatives in the 2026 midterm elections, confidently predicted former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, reports The Guardian.
Pelosi also hopes that her party colleagues will then regain the legislative power that Republicans have almost entirely ceded to Donald Trump.
In addition, she told ABC News, in the program This Week, that when the Democrats regain control of the House of Representatives, they should reclaim the congressional powers that, according to Pelosi, have largely been handed over to Trump by the Republican-led legislature.
“Currently, the Republicans in Congress have effectively abolished Congress,” said Pelosi, who served as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives from 2007 to 2011 and from 2019 to 2023.
In general, Pelosi added that they “simply do what the U.S. president insists they do,” and that everything will change when the Democrats hold the presiding position.
As The Guardian previously reported, Republicans are preparing for a heavy defeat in the 2026 midterm elections, as some polls have indicated. In addition to President Trump’s evident unpopularity, there is also a significant historical pattern showing that the party controlling the White House usually suffers losses in midterm elections.
