Both Ukraine and Russia agreed: Ceasefire
A local ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia has been agreed upon through the mediation of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), reported Ukrainska Pravda.
After the agreement, repair work on the power line near the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant has begun.
"Critically important repairs on the power line have started near the Ukrainian Zaporizhzhia NPP following another local ceasefire. The IAEA team is monitoring the repairs, which are expected to take several days, as part of ongoing efforts to prevent a nuclear accident during the military conflict," the IAEA stated.
The Director General of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, thanked both sides for agreeing to a temporary ceasefire to restore the transfer of electricity between the Zaporizhzhia NPP substations and the Zaporizhzhia thermal power plant.
"Grossi thanks both sides for agreeing to restore the electricity supply between the substations of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and the Zaporizhzhia thermal power plant, which will strengthen nuclear safety," the IAEA said in a statement.
The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant temporarily lost all external power supply during the night between December 5 and 6, marking the 11th such incident since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine war.
