First time in history: Two Be-12 aircrafts were hit VIDEO
Ukrainian forces for the first time shot down two Russian Be-12 Chayka amphibious aircraft on the occupied Crimea peninsula, the Ukrainian Military Intelligence Service (HUR) announced this morning.
The attack was carried out on September 21 by a special unit of HUR called Primari, according to the statement. A video of the impact was also released.
"The first such strike in history"
"This is the first ever strike on a Be-12 in history," the agency announced. The Be-12 Chayka, a Soviet amphibious aircraft known by the NATO designation Mail, specializes in anti-submarine warfare and is equipped with high-value submarine detection and destruction systems.
Mi-8 helicopter also hit
On a separate note, HUR claims that Ukrainian soldiers also shot down a Russian Mi-8 helicopter.
A day earlier, the same agency announced that it had destroyed three Russian Mi-8 helicopters and one radar station in Crimea.
